Niagara – Sangandongo {1971}

The project Niagara was initiated by Klaus Weiss, a internationally admired German Jazz drummer. I know his work from the track Survivor from his classic Library Disco/Funk album Time Singals from 1978. For Niagara, he gathered various known drummers including the later famous German Udo Lindenberg and members of Klaus Doldingers Motherhood, Amon Düül II and Popol Vuh to produce a purely percussive album. Sangandongo is a skillfully played, driving and trance-inducing Voodoo-Krautrock track you need to hear if you like percussive music. DJ Shadow sampled Sangandongo in the track Aye in the early 1990s, it appears on Total Breakdown: Hidden Transmissions From The MPC Era, 1992-1996. Niagara’s first album just got rereleased on PNG/Presch Media and you can buy it in your favorite record shop or on HHV. The later albums were rereleased by MIG, you can find more information about Klaus Weiss and his work on their website. Klaus Weiss died in 2008, may he rest in peace.
