Vashti Bunyan – Train Song {1966}

It took Vashti Bunyan 35 years to release her second album Lookaftering in 2005. When the British songwriter re-released her first album from 1970 in the year 2000, various well known fans of her music including Piano Magic, Devendra Banhart, Four Tet’s Kieran Hebden and Animal Collective wanted to collaborate with her. As tragic and beautifully fragile as the music so is the story of her late success. I’m not sure if it’s comforting or just sad that the work of artists like Rodriguez, Moondog, Boubacar Traoré or the photographer Vivian Maier were noticed so late, if it was up to me, they’d all deserve an Oscar.
